Move Mountains Release Party

GET DOWN SON PRESENTS: MOVE MOUNTAINS ALBUM RELEASE PARTY

The city: Raleigh, NC. The venue: Ruckus Pizza. The event: Move Mountains Album Release Party. The outcome: A perfect night of live independent hip hop music with steady crowd participation and constant head-nodding.

From the gate, when the newcomer to most attendees, Bo Jankans stepped upon stage, it was evident that they were in for one hell of a night. Jankans’ set was nothing less than completely energetic, talented and captivating. It’s paramount being the reggae/island vibe track “Time Away” which kept hands in the air, with or without drinks clenched in them.

The second act, West Wonder went in hard with his usual flashy, hyped up and soulful collection of performance tracks. Using the smaller size of the venue to his advantage he hopped off stage during his single, “You Looked Amazing” to flirtatiously recite his own words to the females in the crowd before jumping back on stage and going straight into his clothing commitment fetish track, “Ralph Lauren” which West dedicated to his favorite line of attire.

Third on the all-star lineup was well respected NC veteran and crowd pleaser, Big Hop, who is the true definition of an M.C. any way you look at it; a microphone controller, master of ceremonies, a mover of crowds, music commentator…he is all of that.

Hop’s set highlighted a few tracks from his “Everything Is Impossible” project, which is a collaborative effort with the hard-hitting Serbian producer, X3M.

On the track “I Don’t Make Sense,” Hop forfeited a performance verse to bring up another well respected and multi-talented emcee/musician Ignite Mindz in order to hit the audience with another completely original NC hip-hop flavor, which was an added bonus to an already stellar night.

Hop also dropped his crowd-catching favorite “I Love The 80’s” single, in which the entire track was purposely laced with countless references to sitcoms from that time period.

Prior to the start of the song, Hop invited the crowd to count the number of these references. If they got the answer correct, he would buy five drinks for them. No one could keep up. Perfect concept, perfect execution and above all, perfect bait for the next Big Hop performance.

Next up was the host of the event, Prop Joe  who energetically hyped  the crowd up with a great balance of go-getter tracks, topped off with an appreciation track, where he also used the size of the venue to his advantage, finding a group of single ladies to dance with while rapping his songs on the microphone. Prop Joe unquestionably got that part of the crowd on their feet and ready for more.

More, meaning the headliner, Mr. Move Mountains himself, Poe Mack, who was complimented by DJ Van Gundy, as they capitalized on the best tracks of the freshly released Move Mountains album.

Not only did Poe Mack and DJ Van Gundy run the show, the sound and the merchandise, they never lost steam performing even after the last track, proclaiming the last call and to “Get The Fuck Outta Here,” just what the hip hop doctor called for letting everyone know that the “Move Mountains” release was finished at Ruckus Pizza and they were about to move more mountains again February 18th in the big apple of NYC, continuing the “Shoe String Budget Tour” with Bo Jankans. Stone Creek Lounge, get ready!
