Chase Rice … Country As Me

On March 8th Chase Rice released his 2nd CD… a 6 track EP titled Country As Me. The former Tar Heel, and Survivor finalist has a real treat for his fans with his new release. The EP kicks off with the track “Heathens In The Evenin’”, a song about the duality of the life of a good ol’ boy (Chase?). Church in the morning, raising hell in the evening… with a sprinkling of family love through out the song. “It’s hard to wear the halo, while the devil is hanging on your sleeve”, Rice sings. I think we all can relate to this song in one way or another! The next track, “Buzz Back”, was released as a single back in December. *WARNING* This song will stick in your head for days! It’s a fun song about working through the fog of a hangover to bring last night’s good time back. Check out the video below and enjoy… you’ll be humming this song all day… getcha buzz back!

Following “Buzz Back” is the track “My Old Man”. This song kinda gives me chills when I hear it. Chase gives a big nod to his deceased father with this song… and if you know Chase, his father is near and dear to his heart. I really enjoyed Chase’s delivery on this song… full of depth and emotion, his vocal skills are most definitely improving and this song is proof. “Die Tryin”" is the next track on Country As Me. Rice really paints a picture of a brave young man following in the footsteps of his father by joining the Army, training at Ft. Bragg, and then off to action. He really brings the song home with lyrics like; “We get up reach morning, knowing this could be the end, but we still put our boots on, and do it all again”. Unfortunately, this song applies to way too many young men & women around the globe serving our country. Glad to say that Chase didn’t go all “Lee Greenwood” on this track… instead mixing the song with just the right amount of patriotic color. Every time the next track comes on I find myself reaching for the volume to turn it up! The title track “Country As Me” is just a good ol’ country stomper that makes me want to rattle the windows.”When I look into your eyes I see, a girl as country as me” sings the former Tar Heel Linebacker, on this sure fire hit. The disc finishes up with “Beats a Million Bucks”. A song full of memories, family, and possibly a fun little play on Chase finishing CBS’s Survivor as the runner-up (the winner of survivor gets a million dollars). The song weaves through Chase’s life, recalling times of football, nascar, friends, and family. It’s a great way to bring this disc to a close.

I absolutely enjoyed each track on this EP. Chase Rice is really carving out his own groove, and this release is prime example. It sounds like with each time in the studio, Chase is getting better and better at his craft. If you get a chance to see Chase live, please do yourself a favor and go enjoy. His down home vibe is a oddity in today’s music world… my suggestion is to grab a biscuit and sop up as much Chase Rice music as you can… you’ll be glad you did!
