If you love being at the beach, but just can’t get the boss to give you that vacation time right now, have I got a great “bar-at-the-beach spot for you! And it’s right here in Greensboro! About half a mile from the UNCG campus, Sandy Bottoms sits in the spot where the former Peppers Den used to be. Owners (big) Travis Hinson, Red, and (not so) little Travis saw an opportunity to open an establishment where everyone was welcome. On any given day, you can stop in at Sandy Bottoms, and you will have a mix of blue collar construction guys, restaurant people like myself, country music fans, head bangers, and hip hoppers, all lined up at the bar, or out back by the volleyball court,discussing the days events, local or national.
Speaking of volleyball, if that’s your thing, in warmer weather, Sandy Bottoms holds tournaments for the more athletically inclined. Or you can be like me, and just hang out at the outside cabana bar and watch the action at the only volleyball court at a bar in town. The manager, Lulu, will greet you with a smile and a “how ya doin’ today?” every time you show up. She might even challenge you to a friendly game of pool, and may even let you win. Speaking of games, Sandy Bottoms has the latest Golden Tee, Putt-Putt Mini Golf, and Touchscreen games around. Think you have fists of steel? Test your punching strength or get out some aggression on the Dragon Punch game. The bartenders- Lanette, Ashley, Kelly, and Kristy, (four of the prettiest bartenders in town) will mix up any libation you might think up. They are experts in popping bottle tops too! Just want to catch the game or a UFC fight? Sandy Bottoms has twelve BIG flat screen televisions, any way your head can turn, so there is something for everyone, and they show all the UFC fights with no cover!
